Hi, I’m Laura Mapes, a seasoned Public Affairs Officer and Communication Specialist with a passion for storytelling, media relations and strategic communication. With over a decade of experience in public affairs, I specialize in crafting compelling narratives, managing crisis communication and leveraging digital media to connect with diverse audiences.
I currently serve as a Social Media Manager for the Arizona National Guard’s Counterdrug Task Force, where I develop impactful campaigns promoting drug prevention and education. My background includes managing public information for the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, leading communication efforts for the Arizona Army National Guard, and serving as a Combat Correspondent and Public Affairs Specialist in the United States Marine Corps. My work in media has earned me recognition, including the Department of Defense Thomas Jefferson Award for Journalism.
Beyond my professional life, I have a deep appreciation for photography, videography, and writing, which blend seamlessly into both my career and personal creative pursuits. Living in Spring Valley, Arizona, I love spending my free time outdoors, whether it’s hiking through Arizona’s scenic landscapes, camping under the stars, or exploring new places with my camera in hand. I also enjoy reading, fitness, and discovering great coffee spots.
I’m a firm believer in the power of storytelling to inform, engage, and inspire. Whether I’m behind the camera, at the keyboard, or engaging with the community, my goal is to create meaningful connections through communication.
